Memorial

The Committee's hope was to create an initial monument design of a mounted trooper for $175,000. However, we realized we were not able to reach the goal of $175,000.

Our obtainable goal of $50,000 was reached through wonderful donations from the public and sponsors.

The memorial is located in Memorial Park, near Prospect Lake, in what is referred to as "The Circle of Honor".  Our committee president approved and designed the memorial with the assistance of Dick Wilhelm, owner of The Monuments Company.  It has a map of major events in Colorado relating to the Indian wars of the west. It includes a history of the Buffalo Soldiers participation in the Spanish American War in 1898. The memorial includes 23 names of Medal of Honor Winners.

The Buffalo Soldiers memorial is constructed of Canadian Rose Granite.

The memorial marked the 150th anniversary of the formation of the historic military organizations.
